It is the second highest volcano in Ecuador with a height of 5897 meters. It is located in the eastern mountain range of the Andes. It is surrounded by other mountains such as Sincholagua, Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, all within the avenue of volcanoes. With its wonderful symmetrical shape, it is an excellence stratovolcano, translated from Quichua into Spanish as the neck of the moon.
Arrival to the southern entrance of the Cotopaxi National Park.
• Visit to Interpretacion Center Mariscal.
• Arrive to parking Area.
• Explanation about volcano /animals/ plants/etc.
• Start hiking to Jose Rivas Refugee (4800m).
• After a short rest, hikes till the glaciers (5000m).
After the hiking from the Refugio Padre Rivas, We take the Bikes down per approximately 11 km, it is optional to bike to the south Entance of the National park Cotopaxi, in total 22 km of bikes.
